NCLP was launched to rehabilitate children working in 12 labour endemic districts of the country and so far have rehabilitated more than 9 lakh children across the country.
Reshma is one of those children who was identified by NCLP teachers at Pillaiyarpuram in Coimbatore who was admitted in NCLP school in her locality and studied there for three years.
Later she was sent to the main school and now she has completed her 12th standard from Teachers Training School, Coimbatore scoring 412 in HSC exams.
Reshma was helping her mother at the tender age of 8 in separating thread from yarn. The companies used to give job work to women at home and they were paid per piece. Reshma's father is a daily wage labourer, their family had just then moved to Pillaiyarpuram and her parents couldn't admit her in school. Reshma was spotted by the NCLP teacher in the locality and admitted there, continued for three years.
From an NCLP school Reshma has worked her way to score 68% in HSC exams. "I want to do Bcom (CA) and get into the banking sector which will help my family in a big way", said the confident teenager.
There are more success stories scripted by NCLP. Fifteen students including seven girls who studied in NCLP schools have passed their HSC exams in Tiruppur and Coimbatore. Most of them were child workers earlier and a few were sent to the NCLP schools because their parents were daily wage labourers and couldnt send the children to normal schools.
R.Saravanakumar, who studied 8th standard in a NCLP school at Tirupur has high ambitions. Though his score was low in the 12th exams, he is very confident about clearing his NEET next year and has decided to take a break and prepare for NEET in 2020.
"I did not score well in my board exams but i'm confident that I can prepare well and clear NEET next year. I am attending coaching classes for the same purpose and I am sure through hard work I can crack NEET and get into a medical college" said Saravanakumar in an optimistic tone.
D. Vijayakumar, Project Director, Coimbatore is all praise for the students. "Our students have passed with a good score in spite of their difficult situations. With more encouragement they will fare better in college and in their lives too", He only had one request and that was for getting good clothing for the students who will be attending college this academic year. "If we can get any help from sponsors we can get good dresses for them while going to college. All of them are from financially poor background and their parents are struggling to meet their educational expenses" added Vijayakumar.
