“High volatile polling booths where the movement of wild elephants is more have been identified and a five-member forest guard team has been appointed for round-the-clock security. Over hundreds of forest guards have been appointed to protect people from wild elephants since people usually turn up to vote from early in the morning.
Wild animal threats are common in Gudalur since the town is situated on the Tamil Nadu–Karnataka border which has a dense forest cover. “We are carrying out a 24-hour surveillance duty to stop the threat of wild animals since voters will turn up at polling booths from early morning,” opined forest officials.
