EVMs, VVPAT machines, ink and other materials are being dispatched to 3070 polling booths in Coimbatore district, with the security being provided by the paramilitary forces. District Collector Rajamani monitored the process of dispatching election materials to Kavundampalayam constituency from Women’s Polytechnic College.
Following this, the Collector addressed the media saying, "Election duty is on at full swing in Coimbatore and Pollachi constituencies. Out of 3070 polling booths in the district, 470 booths are vulnerable, in which additional 'micro observers' have been appointed. Web cameras too have been installed in 1880 booths and all polling booths are being prepped up with basic facilities. EVMs and other election materials are being sent to all polling booths, accompanied by electoral officers. These tasks are expected to be completed by this evening," he added.
The Collector also mentioned that wheelchairs have been sent to polling booths for differently abled voters and volunteers appointed to assist them. "Arrangements have been made for voters to cat their votes without any difficulty. Token system has been implemented to avoid long queues. There are more than 20 percent additional EVMs and technical assistants allotted to attend to any fault that may arise in voting machines. All arrangements have been made to conduct the election independently and honestly. Further, attention is being paid to the safety arrangements at 16 check posts on the Tamil Nadu–Kerala border in Coimbatore district," reiterated the District Collector.
