Four youth die of suffocation in Tirupur: Authorities seal dyeing unit

Tirupur : Following the death of four workers who died of asphyxiation while cleaning an effluent tank of a textile factory in Karppakavundampalayam near Tirupur on Sunday, the district administration has ordered to disconnect the power supply and seal the plant.


Tirupur : Following the death of four workers who died of asphyxiation while cleaning an effluent tank of a textile factory in Karppakavundampalayam near Tirupur on Sunday, the district administration has ordered to disconnect the power supply and seal the plant. 

Tirupur (South) Tahsildar, Mahendran along with authorities from Pollution Control Board sealed the unit and disconnected the power supply to the plant.

Farooq Ahamed of Assam, a worker of the company died due to asphyxiation when he attempted to clean the effluent tank. Three other workers – Anwar Hussain, Abu and Dilwar Hussain, who attempted to rescue him also died of suffocation.

Immediately a day after the incident, the authorities have initiated action against the owner of the textile mill, Jayakumar from Coimbatore for not providing protective gears for the cleaning staff.
