Coimbatore : With hardly three days to go before Election Day, the BJP conducted a press meet with their candidate C P Radhakrishnan explaining about who actually got affected by GST and urging the public not to believe in the false propaganda spread by the Congress and DMK.
"We agree industries were closed down but GST was not the reason. There are many factors. Industries which were run by people of my age were not able to continue because the next generation had gone abroad and settled there. Technology upgrade has to take place for any industry or business. A person of my age could not run the industry and so industries were closed down," justified C P Radhakrishnan (CPR) while answering a query regarding the MSME 2018 report which was tabled as the government policy paper. The report had mentioned that compared to 2016- 2017, 50,000 units were closed down in 2017-18.

"If MSME units are closed down, how come CODISSIA opened up two industrial parks? GST for wet grinders was brought down from 28% to 12%. In the textile industry, GST for job work was brought down from 18% to 5%. In the engineering sector too, GST for job work will be brought down from 18 to 5%," added CPR.
CPR outlined the benefits received by Coimbatore in the past five years. "Through the Mudra scheme, 56,680 beneficiaries in Coimbatore alone have availed loans ranging from 1 lakh to 10 lakhs, amounting to a total of 864 crores. We asked for the Defence Park and the BJP government gave Coimbatore a Defence corridor. Once we come back to power, we will make sure that the Coimbatore airport is upgraded to an ultra modern international airport. Airports are not only for the rich people. Buyers and businessmen from abroad should be able to come to Coimbatore quickly without having to wait anywhere to carry out their business smoothly. That will be possible only if we have an airport on par with international standards. Coimbatore will also soon have super fast trains to Chennai, Bangalore, Trivandrum and Hyderabad. Also very soon, a night train service to Tirunelveli from Coimbatore via Pollachi, Palani and Dindigul will commence," he added.
CPR announced that steps to rejuvenate the water bodies of Coimbatore will be taken up as the first task after coming to power. "A 200-acre lake in Chinnavedampatty has its water channels blocked. We will work to remove the blocks and rejuvenate the lake once we come back to power," reiterated the BJP candidate. He also stressed that the BJP government had never ignored Tamil Nadu and it was only here in TN that 10 'Smart Cities' were formed.
