Coimbatore: Election officials in Coimbatore said that a total of 43,153 new voters have been added through special camps in Coimbatore.


Coimbatore: Election officials in Coimbatore said that a total of 43,153 new voters have been added through special camps in Coimbatore. People who did not receive their voter ID can cast their votes using any of the 13 documents suggested by election commission.

As the Lok Sabha election in Tamil Nadu is to be held on April 18, electoral officials are involved in carrying out all measures in a swift pace. A total of 975 centres and 3070 polling booths are to be set up at 10 legislative assembly constituencies in Coimbatore. 

There are a total of 29,05,114 voters in Coimbatore district that comprises 14 lakhs 38 thousand and 442 male voters, 14 lakhs 66 thousand and 331 female voters and 341 third gender voters. 

In this, 43,153 voters have been added through the special camp that was held last month. 

Meanwhile, voter id is being distributed to 69,000 voters including the newly added voters through special camps. People who did not receive the voter id can cast their votes using any of the 13 documents enlisted by election commission. 

Speaking on this, an electoral official said, ‘Voter ID distribution works is taking place for the 69,000 voters in Coimbatore district. Voters who did not receive their voter ID can cast their votes using any of the 13 documents including Passport, Driving licence, PAN card and Aadhar card along with bringing booth slip to the poll booth.'

Voter turnout in Coimbatore has traditionally been around 68-70%. With all the measures of adding and making it easier for voters, officials are keen to see voter turnout increase.
