Coimbatore: On April 3, a burglary was reported in a house at NPC Nagar, GN Mills where a few men attacked a woman and stole 33.5 sovereigns of gold. A case was filed regarding this at the Thudiyalur police station under section 394.

On April 7, at 10 am, an unknown person on a motorcycle threatened a woman, Sheeba with a knife in his hand and snatched a three sovereign gold chain from her. Sheeba was on the way back to her house near Kavundampalayam. A case was filed under section 392 at the Thudiyalur police station.
The Coimbatore IG and DIG ordered an investigation into both cases, after which a separate team of police officers was formed under the supervision of Sujith Kumar (SP, Coimbatore), along with Madasamy (ADSP, Coimbatore), Mani (SP, Periyanaickenpalayam) , Inspectors Balamuralisundaram, Sundaram, Ilango, Devaraj, Sub- Inspectors Munisamy, Franklin, Special Assistants Sivasamy, Parthiban, Head Constables Velusamy, Vijayakumar and Maheswaran.
Police officials commenced the investigation and with the help of Cyber crime authorities and CCTV footage, arrested Balamurugan (24), Vignesh (a) Vicky (25) and Thangaraj (27) on April 7 and 8.
On inquiry, the police found that the accused Balamurugan was involved in a different burglary case where he stole 54 sovereign gold jewellery and Rs.10000 in cash. A case against him was pending at the Thudiyalur police station. Vicky was a wanted offender in relation to a murder case. Thangaraj was another miscreant who had cases registered against him at Mylapore and Abhiramapuam police stations.
The police recovered 90.5 sovereign gold ornaments from the three criminals. The public lauded the swift action taken by the police in nabbing the miscreants.
