Tirupur : The election campaign supporting CPI's candidate K Subbarayan who is contesting as part of the Secular Progressive Alliance in Tiruppur witnessed the presence of K Veeramani, the leader of DMK and Sudhakar Reddy, the All India General Secretary of CPI who actively campaigned in this event.

Hindu Munnani members pelted stones at Veeramani’s car before he arrived at the meeting venue. The car mirrors of the Northern District Secretary of DMK, Selvaraj were damaged int he clash. Following this, the police had to resort to a lathi charge and dispersed the Hindu Munnani members. This created a stir in the area and Veeramani had to be escorted back with heavy police protection after the meeting.
When the police tried to disperse the DMK members who were protecting Veeramani during the meeting, the DMK cadres began quarrelling with the police. Following this, the DMK Northern District Secretary Selvaraj insisted that his party members stay silent and even resorted to beating a few of them. When a journalist tried to capture the incident on camera, Selvaraj tried to pluck the camera from him which caused tension at the venue. The police had to intervene and pacify them.
Addressing the gathering, Veeramani said, "In Tamil Nadu, one is the Secular Alliance and the other one is the coalition of AAVI and KAAVI (Spirit and Saffron – AIADMK and BJP). In their coalition, of the 40 seats, BJP got only five seats but AIADMK is still only implementing the orders of BJP. This is the rule of drudges.
They do not know how to face defeat. They stir riots, break Periyar statues and threaten the IT department. Even the Election Commission is instructing the IT department to act neutrally. DMK is the Dravidian movement, Communist parties are the flowers blossomed out of that fire and hence they will not be afraid of anything," he reiterated.
Sudhakar Reddy in his campaign speech slammed demonetization and GST policies saying, "Demonetization and GST are the Central Government’s act of dictatorship. Industries are majorly affected by this.
In Tamil Nadu, if you vote for the AIADMK, the vote is for BJP which is for a 'dark India.' Hence, people should think before they vote.”
