291 campaign vehicles granted permit in Coimbatore and Pollachi constituency

Coimbatore: The District authority has granted permit to 291 campaign vehicles for Coimbatore and Pollachi constituencies for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.


Coimbatore: The District authority has granted permit to 291 campaign vehicles for Coimbatore and Pollachi constituencies for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

Prior permission should be obtained for the vehicles which are to be used for the campaign for which a separate office is functioning in the District Collectorate. A total of 148 campaign vehicles have been granted permit in the Coimbatore Lok Sabha constituency whereas 143 vehicles have been granted the permit in Pollachi constituency. 

Speaking on this, an electoral officer said, "148 vehicles have been given permit for campaigning in the Coimbatore Lok Sabha constituency and 143 vehicles have been given permit in the Pollachi constituency. The approval certificate should be pasted in front of the vehicles. Action will be taken as per the model code of conduct if any vehicle is found being used for campaigning without gaining permission," he added.

A total of 17 candidates are contesting from the Coimbatore constituency in the upcoming elections, which also includes 12 independent candidates. Coimbatore North and South region, Singanallur, Kavundampalayam, Sulur legislative assembly constituencies and Palladam constituency of Tiruppur comes under the Coimbatore Lok Sabha constituency. A total of 15 candidates are contesting in the Pollachi Lok Sabha constituency which includes nine independent candidates.
