The Nilgiris: Even as Ooty gears up for the annual packed tourist season, Christian townsfolk in Ooty participated in the annual religious procession ahead of Easter, which is celebrated as a religious holiday commemorating the resurrection of Jesus Christ, the son of God, on the third day after His death on the cross which is marked as Good Friday.

This year, the procession started from Sacred Heart Church and ended at Kandal Cross Shrine which is known as the South Indian Calvary. Thousands of people participated in the procession singing songs for the glory of Jesus. Bishop Amulraj who was part of the procession said, "Prayers and the processions are also done for a good monsoon this year and for students to succeed in their exams.” At the end of the procession, Bishop Amulraj led the people in a time of prayer, after which a feast was laid out to fellowship as a community.
