Coimbatore : "The gruesome murder news of Coimbatore college girl who has been allegedly raped and murdered in Pollachi arouses anger than sympathy. The government's failure to protect women and children is evident", slammed Kamal Haasan in Coimbatore airport on Sunday.
Kamal Haasan, the President of Makkal Needhi Maiam was here in the city to campaign for the Coimbatore and Pollachi constituency candidates.
Speaking to the media, the actor-turned politician said that "While the situation demands tightening of law and order situation in the State, the government is doing the opposite. Stringent measures have to be brought to address such attacks on women.".
He also pointed that the government has done nothing for the poor instead collected data on the number of people living below the poverty line. The gap between the government and the poor keeps growing. To the contrary, Maiam focusses to address the issue. And, our manifesto has a comprehensive and realistic plan for the 50 lakh poor people.
He also condemned the inaction of the officials in handing over the autopsy reports to the parents of the 7-year-old girl who was brutally raped and murdered on March 25 in Pannimadai here.
"The State government can't even provide adequate water to it's people. And, this is the state of the government here", he opined.
When questioned on pre-poll survey released by several media and television channels, Kamal said that "Every political party have their own media and television company. So, its obvious that the pre-poll survey results will be in favor of their party. So, the pre-poll results are nothing but personalised opinion of the entity which releases them and not the voice of the people. However, Maiam has got a place in every righteous pre-poll survey".
The actor will tour the city along with the electoral candidate for Coimbatore and Vice President of the party, Dr.R. Mahendran to gather votes. And, will be in Pollachi on Monday to campaign for Mookambika Rathinam, the electoral candidate for Pollachi.
