Coimbatore : To commemorate the 'World Health Day' which is been globally observed on April 7 of every year, Arya Vaidya Pharmacy (AVP) here in the city organised a mini marathon under the banner 'AyuRUN' to create awareness among the citizens of Coimbatore on the importance of wellness.

Around 450-500 enthusiasts took part in the marathon which featured participants from 15 years to 90 years of age who ran for the theme 'How to Prevent Disease and Reduce Footfalls in Hospitals.'

Commandant B Jayakrishnan of 105 RAF, along with Ravichandran, DSO flagged off the marathon which started from Cosmopolitan club and passed through prominent locations like racecourse, big baazar, carmel garden school, puliyakulam, red fields and concluded at the start point.

The marathon was conducted under two separate categories for men and women. In men's category, Binu Peter from Christ college, Shankar from Genesis sports Club and Ajith from CRS bagged the top three places respectively and in the women's category Sowmiya secured first place while Divya and Soniya bagged second and third position in AyuRun.

Latha Sundaram, Managing Trustee of Aram Foundation distributed the prizes along with Dr. P.R. Krishnakumar, Chancellor of Avinashilingam University and Managing Director of Arya Vaidya Pharmacy. Cash prizes of Rs. 10,000, 6,000 and 4,000 were presented to the winners.
Additionally, a diabetes detection camp was arranged by the Diabetes and Metabolic Disease Clinic of AVP Research Foundation to facilitate early detection and drug-free management of diabetes.
