Coimbatore: In view of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections to be held on April 18 in Coimbatore, 180 officials under the flying squad head and 30 teams comprising of 150 officials under the monitoring team head will carry out search operations around the clock District, according to a release from the Collectorate. The release further added that 30 flying squads and 30 static teams have been deployed for round the clock surveillance. 20 video surveillance teams have been appointed to monitor to ensure public meetings and rallies do not violate the model code of conduct. With the model code of conduct in force, the Election Commission is tightening its grip over illegal money transactions during the elections. People carrying more than Rs.50,000 are advised to carry proper documents with them. Failing to produce documents, the officers of the flying squad will confiscate the cash and hand over the same to the Income Tax department. The election flying squad have seized Rs.66,22,200 today. Among the cash that has been confiscated, Rs.2,70,30,075 cash and 277 silk saris were returned to the concerned persons after they submitted the necessary documents. The election flying squad have seized Rs 4,17,33,675 from March 11 to April 6. Also, 2,034 liquor bottles, Rs.37,000 worth gutka weighing 17 kg and three air pistols have been handed over to the respective treasuries and police stations in the District.
