Coimbatore: The Tamil Nadu Association of Micro and Cottage Industries (TACT) has released a press statement that the Association is deeply hurt by the BJP candidate's remark on industries affected by GST.
In an interview to Dinamalar, C P Radhakrishnan had said, "Only industries doing businesses outside the purview of law without bills are affected by GST." This statement has not gone down well with industrial associations like the TACT.
J James, President, TACT mentioned in the press release that "After GST came into place, hundreds and thousands of micro and small industries have lost their businesses and owners have become workers. There are many industries which have paid lakhs of rupees, only as fine. When small and micro industries raise a bill, it takes 60 to 90 days to get their payments but GST has to be paid every month which has left a huge burden on the sector. Does not all this look like we are affected by GST to C P Radhakrishnan? We are deeply hurt by his statement."
The release further states, "In the Tamil Nadu assembly, during the last session, the Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami said that nearly 50,000 industries were closed down and 5,00,000 people have lost their jobs. No government has till date levied tax on job orders but in GST 18 percent tax was levied on job orders in the engineering sector. We have been making representations to Central Ministers to bring this down. When we are trying hard to do that, such a remark from C P Radhakrishnan has hurt us deeply."
When C P Radhakrishnan was approached for response to the press release from TACT, he was unavailable for comment.
