Coimbatore: Kudimakkal Seyalpaattu Kulu and Valarilam Pen Tholilaalargalukkaana Paadhugaappu Koottamaippu addressed the media today at the Coimbatore Press Club and put forth 12 requests to candidates contesting in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
The requests covered areas of education, employment, identity cards and assurance of permanent jobs.
"There are more than 3,000 cotton mills in Tamil Nadu, among which nearly 1,600 cotton mills are in the West Zone. More than three lakh women work here among which 2 lakh are young women. Rs.421 is the minimum wage provided at the beginning of the recruitment. We are stressing to pay Rs.18,000 once a person is made permanent after the completion of training. But, this has not been implemented till now. The age limit of child labour should be extended till 18 years of age.
Action should be taken against the hostels of cotton mills which are not registered. Employees should be made permanent once they have completed 450 days of work. An ICC Committee should be constituted in the firm with more than 10 women. All these requests should be implemented. These requests will be provided to the candidates contesting in Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Erode, Nilgiris, Tirunelveli, Virudhunagar, Tuticorin, Ramanathapuram, Dindigul, Madurai and Pudukottai," stated the members of the organisation.
The HMS State General Secretary Rajamani, MLF State General Secretary Palanisamy and many others were present at the event.
