Coimbatore : Undeterred by the angry protests of the public or the rage against the men in the sexual abuse cases that have rocked Pollachi and Coimbatore in the past month, another shocking sexual assault on a minor girl in the city has occurred.

A 60-year old man three school students have been booked under the POCSO Act for sexually abusing a nine-year old girl in Sundarapuram, near Podanur here.

The incident allegedly happened when the nine-year old girl was in her home alone in the Pillayarpuram area of Sundarapuram, owing to school vacation. A 60-year old man and three school students of the same area allegedly entered her home and sexually abused her. The incident came to light when the child informed her parents about the incident.

Enraged by the blatant assault on her daughter, the mother of the victim immediately lodged a complaint in the All Women's Police Station in Ramanathapuram. The police arrived in the neighbourhood where the assault had taken place and immediately arrested the 60-year old man and the three school students, booking them under the POCSO Act and producing them at the magistrate court. The 60-year old man has been remanded in jail while the three school students have been put into a juvenile school.

In spite of the string of shameful and abusive incidents on minor girls and women in Coimbatore, this incident sets off alarm bells in the city which was once known to be a safe haven for its womenfolk and children.

Neighborhood men preying on little girls and planning sexual assaults on them in and around their own homes, as in this case where the older man and the young students had reportedly planned the assault on the girl who was alone at home should necessitate severe punishment for such sexual offenders to refrain from considering such crimes. Justice delivered speedily alone can curb the spate of these crimes which are on the rise daily in the city.
