Election flying squad seizes 149kg of gold bars in Coimbatore

Coimbatore: An flying election squad on Friday evening seized around 149 kilogram of gold bars in Puliyakulam here.

According to reports, the officials from the election flying squad intercepted an vehicle and found several boxes of gold bars. As the occupants of the car could not produce relevant documents, the officials handed over the gold bars to the District Collectorate and also alerted the income tax department. 

Presently, the gold is said to be secured at the district treasury, sources told.



Tense moments prevailed at the District Collectorate, as more than 25 Jewellers gathered there to inquire on the incident. However, the officials pacified them by asking them to produce relevant documents and claim the gold bars.
