17 candidates are contesting from the Coimbatore constituency in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections which also includes 12 independent candidates. The Coimbatore constituency comprises of Coimbatore North and South region, Singanallur, Kavundampalayam, Sulur legislative assembly constituencies and the Palladam constituency of Tiruppur.
Prior permission is needed for vehicles which are to be used for campaigns. A separate office at the District Collectorate had been set up exclusively for this purpose. A total of 148 campaign vehicles have been granted permit in the Coimbatore Lok Sabha constituency.
"148 vehicles have been given the permit for campaigning in the Coimbatore Lok Sabha constituency. The approval certificate should be pasted in front of the vehicle. Action will be taken as per the model code of conduct if any vehicle is found being used for campaigning without gaining permission," he added.
