COPMA to support CPI (M) candidate P R Natarajan since reduction of GST is a poll promise

Coimbatore: Coimbatore Pump Manufacturers Association (COPMA) have announced their support to the CPI (M) candidate P R Natarajan.

Coimbatore : Coimbatore Pump Manufacturers Association (COPMA) have announced their support to the CPI (M) candidate P R Natarajan.

Addressing the media at the Press Club in Coimbatore today, the CPI(M) leader G Ramakrishnan said, “There are 3000 small scale pump manufacturing industries, 300 moulding units, 200 grinder manufacturing industries and 30,000 small lathe workshops in Coimbatore. These industries are badly affected due to the wrong decisions of the Central Government. Many small industries have been shut down due to introduction of GST in an environment where they were already distressed by demonetization."

"COPMA members requested us to reduce GST tax and we have assured to reduce GST from 18 percent to 5 percent when we come to power. The decisions of political parties differ from state to state during elections. Our aim is to form a secular government in the State.

The defamation case against Stalin in Coimbatore is anti-democratic. Criticizing the ruling party is not sedition," added G Ramakrishnan.

COPMA’s leader Maniraj said, “Agriculture cannot happen without pump set which is essential for supplying water. Double tax should not be imposed on such an essential item. 18 percent has been imposed on pump set sales and 18 percent for job work. There was no tax for job work before GST was implemented. This job work comes under the labour work category.

Due to this contradictory tax implementation policy, small-scale industries were shut down. Thousands of workers are jobless in Coimbatore, now. We requested various Government officials and politicians to reduce GST to 5 percent and not to impose tax for job work. But our demands were rejected repeatedly. But the Marxist Communist party has assured to fulfill our demands. Hence, our COPMA Association members have decided to support the CPI (M) candidate of the DMK-CPI (M) coalition, P R Natarajan, in this election," he added.
