Coimbatore: With the Parliamentary elections fast approaching, Coimbatore is witnessing political bigwigs from different parties making a beeline for the city to campaign fiercely.
BJP's Amit Shah was here in the city on Tuesday and now it is the Prime Minister Modi's turn. It is reported that he will be arriving on April 9, to campaign for the BJP candidate C P Radhakrishnan.
Vanathi Srinivasan, the State General Secretary of BJP announced the impending visit of the PM to Coimbatore, in a press conference here today. Modi will be addressing a public gathering on April 9 at the CODISSIA grounds. Along with the Prime Minister, the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami and leaders of other alliance parties including Premalatha Vijayakanth of DMDK, G K Vasan of Tamil Maanila Congress and Sarathkumar of Samathuva Makkal Katchi will participate in the event. "Arrangements are made to accommodate around 5 lakh visitors," said the BJP General Secretary.
After the announcement, while answering questions raised by the media, Vanathi said, "Congress is acting as if they have nothing to do with GST but during their rule they tried to implement GST and failed. They also blamed BJP for the same reason. Post demonetisation and GST, we agree there were business losses but our Government listened to the grievances of various sectors and we reduced GST rates in various industries including Textiles. Coimbatore hugely benefited by the Central Government schemes and to continue enjoying benefits, people should vote BJP to power again," she reiterated.
Talking about the DMK manifesto she said, "M K Stalin, out of fear of failure will announce a new scheme everyday. The DMK-Congress Alliance know that they will lose and so they make various promises. But the Alliance itself is not clear of their PM candidate. The same Communist party which is part of the Alliance is contesting against Congress in Kerala. Only BJP can give the people a stable government," she opined.
