Coimbatore: Amidst huge gathering of public and party cadres, the election campaign of the secular progressive alliance commenced at the CODISSIA grounds here on Tuesday evening.

DMK Chief M K Stalin and members of the parties in the alliance including CPM State Secretary, Balakrishnan and politburo member G Ramakrishnan, KMDK general secretary E R Eswaran, CPI state secretary R Mutharasan, Founder of TVK T Velmurugan, MDMK Chief Vaiko took part in the campaign.

Singanallur MLA N Karthik delivered the introductory speech.

CPM State Secretary, Balakrishnan while addressing the gathering said, "I consider this campaign as a victory meeting, as large number of people have gathered here through which it is evident that CPI (M) candidate P.R.Natarajan will emerge victorious. Our Secular progressive alliance will emerge victorious in all the 40 parliamentary constituency in Tamil Nadu and 18 assembly constituencies".

He also added that "Both Edappadi Palanisamy and Modi are struck in fear, as our victory is assured. To divert the people's attention and to tarnish our name, they are conducting raids at the houses of DMK leaders".

‘Why is the income tax department officials raiding only the houses of DMK functionaries? Does the election commission have bravery to raid the houses and offices of Minister S.P Velumani and CM Edappadi Palanisamy and their aides?", he questioned.

"PM Modi and CM Palanisamy should mark their calendar on May 23, as it is the day when IT officials will raid their houses. Modi government is a sinking boat.People are waiting to cast their votes against the BJP-AIADMK alliance on April 18. No new party has forged an alliance with BJP, even the parties which was in their alliance has left them" he added.

"All parties including DMK have appealed the election commission to conduct by-elections in the 4 assembly constituencies. However, Edapadi doesn't urge the elections because he is well aware of their party's failure", he further added.
