Coimbatore: The Tamil Nadu CPM Secretary, K Balakrishnan and the Coimbatore parliamentary constituency candidate P R Natarajan met the family of the seven-year old girl who was raped and murdered recently at Pannimadai here and offered his condolences.
Later, while addressing the media, the State Secretary K Balakrishnan said, "This incident has shocked the entire state of Tamil Nadu. Coimbatore has become the centre of sexual assaults nowadays. The district authority and government officials are just watching, without taking any action. Illegal drug sales have become common too here nowadays, to which more youngsters are getting addicted."
"The inaction in the rape and murder case of the seven-year old girl at Pannimadai has happened due to the negligence of the police. The grandmother of the person who has been arrested in this case also died on the same day of the rape and murder incident, which raises many doubts. So, the lady's remains need to be sent for a post-mortem. All those connected in this case should be arrested at the earliest and punished within three months.
The Adi Dravidas residing in Pannimadai are deprived of even basic amenities. So, the district authority should take action at the earliest. The government too should provide compensation to the family of the girl. To divert the issue, false news are being spread that the person belongs to CPM. Legal action will be initiated against journals which publish such news," warned CPM's State Secretary.
