Coimbatore: In view of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections to be held on April 18, 2019 in Coimbatore, 180 officials under a flying squad head and 30 teams comprising of 150 officials under a monitoring team head will carry out search operations 24/7 in the district, said a release from the Collectorate.
Coimbatore: In view of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections to be held on April 18, 2019 in Coimbatore, 180 officials under a flying squad head and 30 teams comprising of 150 officials under a monitoring team head will carry out search operations 24/7 in the district, said a release from the Collectorate.
The release further added that 30 flying squads and 30 static teams have been deployed for round-the-clock surveillance. 20 video surveillance teams have been appointed to monitor public meetings and rallies to ensure the model code of conduct is not violated.
With the model code of conduct in force, the Election Commission is tightening its grip over illegal money transactions during elections. People carrying more than Rs. 50,000 are advised to carry proper documents. Failing to produce documents, the officers of flying squads have been instructed to confiscate the cash and hand over the same to the Income Tax department.
The Election flying squad have thus far seized Rs.3,16,21,775 from March 11 till April 1. Also, 1769 liquor bottles, 277 silk saris, 3 air pistols, 1 double barreled shotgun and 15 kgs of Gutka products worth Rs.30,000 have been handed over to the respective treasuries and police stations in the district. After the submission of proper documents, the money was returned to the concerned persons.
