Coimbatore: Following the allegation that the corporation failed to maintain pathways for easy access of fire tending vehicles during fire accidents, the Corporation Commissioner has ordered the officials to commence the work of creating pathways by gathering waste into small heaps.

A major fire broke out on March 23 at the sprawling 650-acre dump yard at Vellalore which was brought under control after 4-5 days. For the first time, the Coimbatore Corporation deployed a helicopter with the help from Indian Air Force to douse the fire that broke out at the dump yard in Vellalore.
The fire and rescue department was left helpless as they couldn't drive down the fire tender vehicles inside most parts of the dump yard due to lack of pathways. Huge heaps of wastes obstructed their entry into the fire zone.
Hence, the officials headed by Coimbatore Corporation Commissioner, Shravan Kumar have begun work to create pathways.
Corporation Engineer, Lakshmanan and other Zonal officials were present.
