The Nilgiris: Maxi cab drivers in Nilgiris are on strike from April 1 till 7 to gain the attention of the Central and State governments, citing that police levying restrictions has affected their business with tourists.

"We undergo immense trouble due to vehicle checks by the police done at all the major spots due to which we cannot take tourists to all the spots. Due to constant checking, we lose our credibility with the tourists," stated the cab drivers.

"We have been stressing for nearly four years to permit up to 18 seats in maxi cabs, since only 12 seats are allowed now. At times, we are made to pay penalty even if we possess all the necessary documents. Due to this, our livelihood has been affected," they lamented. "So, we have begun this strike to gain the attention of the State and Central governments, which will end on April 7," they further added.
