The Nilgiris: A trip to the 'queen of the hills' would be incomplete without a boat ride at the Ooty's boat house.
The artificial lake was established by John Sullivan in the year 1824, since then the place has never failed to charm the tourist population.

Set amidst tall eucalyptus trees, the lake offers boat ride service that starts from 8:00 in the morning till 6:00 pm in the evening. The deer park on the fringes of the lake and the sight of the toy train enthralls the visitors.

On the west side of the boat house is the 'Honeymoon boat house' that was built exclusively to garner the newly wedded. The Tamil Nadu tourism department built the honeymoon boat house at a cost of Rs. 1 crore in the year 2001. Along with the pleasant atmosphere, the newly wedded couple can take boat rides including a special Kashmiri shikara Boat ride.
However, due to ill maintenance, the honeymoon boat house is presently in a dilapidated condition and needs immediate attention. The couples who opt to stay in the honeymoon boat house are left disappointed, as the roof of the boat house could collapse anytime.
Owing to repeated requests, the tourism department has finally decided to renovate the honeymoon boat house before the end of this summer season.
