Coimbatore : Following complaints of reported tobacco usage inside the Coimbatore Central Prison, City Police today conducted a special inspection in the prison premises here.
Coimbatore : Following complaints of reported tobacco usage inside the Coimbatore Central Prison, City Police today conducted a special inspection in the prison premises here.
Around 31 Police men lead by Police officials Mohan Pillai and Rajesh carried out the inspection at the central prison, which began at 3.20 pm and ended at 4.50 pm today.
The inspection has occurred after multiple complaints were raised recently regarding the usage of cigarettes, banned tobacco products and cell phones by the prisoners. The complaints alleged that these products are distributed to prisoners through second grade prisoners.
Likewise, prison department administration had also inspected second grade prisoners to refrain from such activities. Superintendent of Central Prison has also displayed warning in the notice board.
“Few among the second grade policemen who were appointed in 2017 have indulged in bringing banned tobacco products into the prison and have been distributing them to the prisoners here. Stern actions will be taken if they continue this act,” read the warning in the notice board.
