Coimbatore : In a tragic accident, a young man and woman were killed after being run over by a truck on the Mettupalayam main road, today.
According to the police, the deceased Maniraj (21) and Vinothini (20) were reportedly on a two-wheeler travelling from the city toward Mettupalayam.
Maniraj, who was riding the vehicle reportedly tried to overtake a car near Odandhurai and had hit a barricade. While he lost control of the two-wheeler, the duo fell on the road and a truck that was plying toward the city in the opposite direction ran over them.
Maniraj succumbed on the spot and Vinothini who was immediately rushed to the hospital, reportedly succumbed on the way.
Police have registered a case and have started investigation. Maniraj was studying BE in a private college and Vinothini was studying BA in another private college in Coimbatore. Meanwhile, people have claimed that the improper placing of barricades on the Mettupalayam road is the cause for many accidents on this road.
