Coimbatore : In a tragic incident, a 62-year-old man who went to bathe in a river inside the forest near the Veerakaliamman Temple in Mullankadu was trampled to death by a wild elephant this evening.
Coimbatore : In a tragic incident, a 62-year-old man who went to bathe in a river inside the forest near the Veerakaliamman Temple in Mullankadu was trampled to death by a wild elephant this evening.
The victim K Kumarasy from Varadharajapuram in Uppilipalayam who had gone to worship at the temple, stepped close to the river. The elephant that was resting near the river attacked him. He died on the spot. His mortal remains were sent to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (CMCH) for autopsy.
Meanwhile, it is reported that a cattle rearer in Mankarai was also attacked by a Gaur today. The victim Chinnaraj from Mankarai was taken to CMCH for further treatment.
Despite repeated warnings by the Coimbatore Forest Department to the public asking them to refrain from entering forested landscapes and going too close to water holes, such untoward incidents continue to occur with people who fail to heed such warnings.
