A seven-year old girl in Pannimadai here who went missing on Monday was found murdered in the backyard of her house on the very next day. Post-mortem reports revealed that the girl had been raped multiple times before she was murdered. Following this, the public and various fronts including Anaiththindiya Jananayaga Madhar Sangam staged protests urging to arrest the culprits. The parents too refused to accept the mortal remains of the girl. Only after they were assured through video conferencing that the culprits would be arrested within 24 hours, the parents relented and received the child's remains and buried her. And yet in spite of it being four days since the crime, the culprits have not been nabbed yet.
Following this, members of the Anaiththindiya Jananayaga Madhar Sangam petitioned at the District Collectorate today. After filing their petition, while addressing the media, the District Secretary, Radhika said, "We collected the corpse of the child on that day since the District Collector and the Superintendent of Police assured that the culprits would be arrested at the earliest. But the culprits have not been nabbed, yet. What is the difficulty in nabbing the culprits since the incident took place in a small rural village?" she questioned.
"We have stressed that funds should be allocated for the family of the girl from the Nirbhaya fund, besides providing free house and a government job for one in the family. The District Collector has assured to take necessary action and cited that some actions could not be carried out immediately due to administrative reasons," she added. "Multiple protests will be held if action is not taken as assured," she noted.
