While a forest fire broke out last night in the hills above Narasipuram, a major forest fire broke out in the reserve forests near the Dhoomanur settlement in Thadagam.
The area that comes under the purview of the Coimbatore Range of the division started burning this morning and was being attended to by forest officials. Though wild animals were not affected, the green cover has been burning continuously for the past two months, resulting in the loss of hundreds of trees. Though officials claim that the trees would start springing up once again after the first showers of rain hit the ground, the temperature in Coimbatore is expected to soar owing to the dryness prevailing in the forests nearby.
