M Sridhar, advocate and Makkal Needhi Maiam candidate of the Sriperumbudur MP constituency in a statement released to the media alleged, "The Election Commission of India's website for granting various campaigning permissions is not functioning properly.
Getting online permission is not working since the Delhi server is down which has been admitted by an electoral official. It is becoming impossible to start our campaigning in a legitimate way. The manual permissions are not granted due to various NOCs that are not easily being issued by the State authorities.
The local police is not issuing permission for mike sets saying election rules are in force. We understand our leader Kamal Hassan's tour program is prevented by the Election Commission and the State government due to fear of ruling parties losing the election."
"I am going to meet the Returning Officer of Sriperumbudur MP constituency at the Kancheepuram Collector's Office for granting permission for our election campaign vehicles. If I fail to obtain the permission, I have no other option but to sit in public and stage a hunger strike outside the Collector's office in the Gandhian way, exposing the biased and ineffective online system of the Election Commission of India in conducting fair elections in a democratic nation," he asserted.
