Coimbatore : Members of the Adi Dravidar Welfare Board petitioned the Superintendent of Police, Pandiyarajan to register the minor girl's rape and murder case under the Prevention of Atrocities Act 2016.

“Fair justice will be meted out to the affected people only if a case is filed under this Act. Also, the family members of the girl can get a government job and a relief fund,” stated the members. The SP had assured that the request will definitely be taken into consideration.

The petition came in the wake of the gruesome rape and murder committed on a seven-year old girl in Pannimadai who was abducted while playing near her house. A separate police team has been formed under the Coimbatore(West) IG, Periyayya and a search for the criminals is on. The police has thus far taken six persons under custody for inquiry, and the case has been registered under the POCSO Act.
