Case History
A seven-year old girl was found murdered in Coimbatore limits after she was reportedly sexually abused, in Pannimadai. The Class 1 student had gone missing while playing in front of her house. The family searched for the girl in the neighborhood before lodging a complaint with the police. Though the police and neighbours searched for the girl throughout the night, she was not found.
The body of the girl, with blood stains, was recovered by the police near her house on Tuesday morning. Autopsy reports suggest that the victim was sexually abused before she was murdered.
The parents, kin and public staged road blocks in the city demanding that the culprits be arrested at the earliest and sentenced to death. They initially refused to accept the remains of the girl, demanding that the accused be arrested first but later accepted the body after the police showed the parents the video of the suspects in their custody. They also petitioned Collector Rajamani revealing the names of a few that they suspected to be responsible for the brutal murder.
The police, meanwhile have apprehended six men and kept them under custody for questioning, in connection to the case which has been also registered under the POCSO Act.
