Coimbatore: Nominations of 15 candidates for the Coimbatore parliamentary constituency and nominations of 17 candidates for the Pollachi constituency has been accepted, for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

Addressing the media, the District Collector K Rajamani who is also the Chief Electoral Officer said, "Of the 38 candidates who filed their nominations to contest in the Coimbatore constituency, the papers of 15 candidates were accepted during the scrutiny, while that of 23 others were rejected. Of the 41 people who filed their nominations to contest in the Pollachi constituency, the papers of 17 candidates were accepted during scrutiny, whereas the nominations of 24 people were rejected."
Commenting on the rejection of the nomination papers of a few independent candidates, the District Collector clarified that they had not submitted pledge documents properly. "All the nominations have been finalised only after scrutinizing the documents in the presence of the election observer. Candidates were also provided time to make changes," he added.
A case has been registered in Pollachi for violating election rules and a case has been registered against the MNM party for conducting an election meeting in Coimbatore without gaining prior permission. Notices have been sent to the concerned seeking an explanation. Meanwhile, the nomination of the AMMK candidate Karthik in Cuddalore constituency has also been rejected.
