Rejected electoral candidates protest at District Collectorate

Coimbatore: Electoral candidates whose nomination papers have been rejected staged a protest in front of the District Collectorate, today.

Coimbatore: Electoral candidates whose nomination papers have been rejected staged a protest in front of the District Collectorate, today.

With the filing of nomination papers coming to an end yesterday, review of all nominations are taking place at the District Collectorate, now. Meanwhile, the nomination papers of ‘Election King’ Noor Mohammed who filed in Coimbatore to contest in the Pollachi parliamentary constituency, Sundar Raj, Yuvraj and Umar Ali have been rejected.

Commenting on the rejection of their papers, the candidates protested saying, "Our nominations have been rejected for reasons such as a column that had been left unfilled, place to be ticked was left out, an alphabet was wrongly added etc."

Following this, they staged a dharna in front of the District Collectorate urging that their nomination papers should be accepted. They also broke into an argument with police officials. Though the officials attempted to pacify them saying that they could resolve the issue in Court, the rejected candidates continued to protest. "How can we accept that democracy is prevailing in this nation since only major parties and rich people are allowed to contest in the elections. Contesting in an election is still a dream for the common man," they added.
