Coimbatore : The District Collector and Electoral Officer of Coimbatore, K Rajamani rejected the affidavit of K Raghul Gandhi today, citing errors in the educational qualification section in his affidavit.
K Raghul Gandhi, a candidate from the Agila India Makkal Kazhagam (AIMK) had arrived today at the Collectorate to file his nomination to contest in the Coimbatore Lok Sabha Constituency.
He had earlier contested in both the Mayor elections (2014) and Assembly elections (2016) from the Singanallur constituency, as an independent candidate and garnered more than 2000 votes. He was at the Collectorate today for affidavit scrutinising and his application was rejected as he did not mention the date of passing SSLC. "This is a minor error which can be rectified easily. The people at the Election Commission did not help us when we asked them to clarify doubts,” he said. He further criticised the Election Commission for hiking the application fee up to Rs.25,000 claiming it would not allow common people to contest in elections.
Raghul Gandhi said that he would contest in Wayanad constituency in Kerala against Rahul Gandhi, the Prime Ministerial candidate of the alliance headed by the Indian National Congress.
