According to the DVAC officials, Baladhandapani from Sulur owns a land in Kannampalayam. Three months back, he had approached Venkatachalam (50), a land surveyor at the Sulur Tahsildar office regarding subdivision of his land.

After verifying his documents, Venkatachalam had demanded a bribe of Rs. 25,000 from Baladhandapani. Unwillingly to give him bribe, Baladhandapani had approached him several times but Venkatachalam was stubborn on the bribe amount.
Enraged by his dishonesty, he escalated the issue to the DVAC officials, who planned to the trap the land surveyor. Upon their instructions, Baladhandapani gave the land surveyor Rs. 1000 as advance and promised to pay the remaining on March 26.
On Tuesday, Baladhandapani went to Sulur Taluk office to give the remaining amount to the land surveyor.
The DVAC sleuths, who were present in plain clothes, caught the land surveyor red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs. 24,000.
The DVAC sleuths arrested Venkatachalam and remanded him in judicial custody. Further investigation is on.
