Coimbatore : In view of upcoming Lok sabha polls to be held on 18 April 2019 in Coimbatore, 180 officials under flying squad head and 30 teams comprising of 150 officials, under monitoring team head will carry out search operations 24/7 in the district, said a release from the Collectorate.

With the model code of conduct in force, the Election Commission is tightening its grip over illegal money transactions during elections. People carrying more than Rs. 50,000 are advised to carry proper documents. Failing to produce documents, the officers of flying squad will confiscate the cash and hand over the same to the Income tax department.
So far, the Election flying squad have seized Rs. 1,79,40,065/- from 11.03.2019 to 26.03.2019. Also, 1158 liquor bottles, 277 silk sarees and one air pistol has been handed over to the respective treasuries and police station in the district.
