EC does not take action against AIADMK, BJP cadres for violating rules: CPI (M) State Secretary, K Balakrishnan

Coimbatore: Addressing the media at the CPI (M) office in Gandhipuram, the State Secretary of the party K Balakrishnan alleged, "The activities of the Election Commission does not seem to be honest as it does not take any action against the AIADMK and BJP candidates who violate the code of conduct even if a written complaint is filed. Candidates who are coming to file their nomination papers violate laws by wearing badges with symbols on them.

People are brought in hundreds of lorries for campaigns, violating rules which also happens in the election meetings of the Chief Minister. Malathi, the Tahsildar of Kanchipuram District has been appointed as the Election Officer, whereas her husband and father-in-law are functionaries of the ruling party in the same constituency. With the situation being such, how can we expect that Election Officer to be honest?" he further questioned.

"A brief complaint with the list of police officials and government officials who are in the same place for a long time will be sent to the Election Commission tomorrow. Also, the statement of Minister Rajendra Balaji, the CPM candidate for Madurai who has backed down himself is highly condemnable. Rajendra Balaji is not speaking like a Minister, and even rambles at times," said Balakrishnan.

He also challenged Chief Minister Edappadi Palanisamy on whether the CM had guts to say that Rajendra Balaji’s statement on wine shops is the ideology of the government. "The statement of the Union Minister that there will be no farm loan waiver is not acceptable," he added. He also questioned Tamilisai Soundararajan justifying the Tuticorin shooting. "BJP members are not aware of statements they make as C P Radhakrishnan has made a statement saying that there is no price hike whereas price hike has been steep after the implementation of GST," he highlighted.

"The CPM candidate of Madurai and Coimbatore will be honest to people as many small scale industries, knitwears and power looms were closed in the past five years. Black money is not completely eradicated even after the implementation of demonetization. Stalin will participate in the campaign to be held on April 3 in Coimbatore. Following him, leaders from other parties in the alliance including Vaiko will come for the campaign," he added.

"Election commission is functioning like puppet in the hands of BJP," he accused. Fearing a change in regime could take place if they lose in all the 21 constituencies, they have refrained from conducting elections in three constituencies," noted Balakrishnan.
