The Congress President Rahul Gandhi has stated that 20 percent families belonging to the poorest of the poor category in India will be given Rs.72,000 each, annually. 

Rahul Gandhi briefed the details of his minimum income guarantee scheme, labelling it NYAY (Nyunatam Aay Yojana). Addressing the media, he said, "I promise that there will be justice for the poor. The Congress guarantees that 20 percent families belonging to the poorest of the poor category in India will be given Rs.72,000 each, annually." "People ask me what would be the minimum income line; the line would be Rs.12,000 a month," he clarified. He added that the scheme will be finalised after consulting renowned economists and experts. "It will be a fiscally prudent scheme. If voted to power, the Congress will identify such families who live below the poverty mark," reiterated Rahul Gandhi.
