Immediately after filing his nomination papers at the District Collectorate, the Secular Democratic Alliance candidate P.R. Natarajan addressed the media.
“I am contesting in this election as a 'peace' candidate of Coimbatore. In the recent past, this city which is known for pump manufacturing is in dearth of jobs. More than five lakh workers have lost their jobs and 50,000 industries have been shut down in the city," he noted.
Speaking on various issues concerning the people of Coimbatore, the CPI (M) candidate P.R. Natarajan said, "We will fight to cancel the GST imposed on job orders. CPI (M) will stand against privatization of drinking water supply in the city yet take necessary steps to provide clean drinking water to people at a minimum cost".
He also added that "Abducting agricultural lands from the farmers in the name of development will be addressed. Focus will be laid to conserve and restore the natural resources of the Western Ghats. Legal action will be initiated against illegally-constructed buildings and encroachments".
When questioned on the Pollachi issue, he opined, "Every police officer involved in the investigation of the Pollachi case should be probed. And, also a thorough investigation should be done regarding the deaths of young women in the past 7 years in Pollachi."
When a question was raised by the media about illegal money transactions and 'cash for vote' during the upcoming elections, he said that they would alert the Election Commission.
