Coimbatore : Amidst a huge gathering, Kamal Haasan announced the second set of electoral candidates for the forthcoming elections at a party event held at CODISSIA grounds on Sunday.
Dr.R.Mahendran, Vice President of the Party was announced as the candidate for Coimbatore Constituency. And, Mookambika Rathinam was announced for Pollachi Constituency, V.S. Chandrakumar for Tirupur Constituency and remaining candidates for 18 other constituencies were also subsequently announced.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. R Mahendran, Vice President of MNM said "This is a historic day which will be etched in the history of the Kongu region. The upcoming elections would be definitely challenging for MNM, as we are just a year-old. However, we are determined and confident to fight".
While it was expected that Kamal Haasan himself will compete either in Chennai (south), Ramanathapuram his hometown or Coimbatore, his decision to back off has left his fans disappointed. To the contrary, the political pundits opine it as a 'wise' move.
Though political experts and people have different opinions on the party's debut participation in the Parliamentary elections, Kamal Haasan and his top team are convinced that this election would amplify their presence among the masses.
While, Dr. Mahendran could have garnered sizeable votes from his hometown Pollachi which presently is simmering from the sexual scandal issue, his challenge to forego the comfort of his hometown and compete with veteran politicians from CPI (M) and BJP in Coimbatore has raised the eyebrows of many.
Dr. Mahendran will be competing against P.R. Natarajan from CPI (M) and C.P. Radhakrishnan from BJP.
The electoral candidates who were announced on March 20, the new set of candidates announced tonight, executive committee members of the party and thousands of cadres took part in the meet.
