Coimbatore : Thousands of Kamal Haasan fans and party cadres of his brainchild Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) rejoiced in ecstasy as Kamal Haasan walked the long ramp at the CODISSIA grounds at an event organised to announce the second set of electoral candidates for the upcoming Parliamentary elections on Sunday.

Party's slogan 'Naalai Namadhe' echoed across the CODISSIA grounds, as thousands showed their mobile torch lights and showed their support for the party. The mega 'torch light' stationed in the grounds which kept revolving garnered the attention of all.

Greeting the Kovai people, Kamal Haasan began his speech by recalling a few dates in 2016, 2017 and 18 stating that these dates are the reason for Maiam.

"On November 8, the nation's economy was shattered with the announcement of demonetisation. I even tweeted appreciating the move which claimed to curtail black money. Later, I understood how detrimental it was as lakhs of people were left in lurch", he noted.

Kamal Haasan also evoked the historic Jallikattu moment, Anita, a medical aspirant who committed suicide because of NEET, murder of Senior Journo Gauri Lankesh, the youngster who was killed in an accident Coimbatore after a political banner fell on him and  Tuticorin shooting which claimed the lives of 13 people.

"The youngsters who stand up for a cause are the battery for my torch light symbol. And, Anita is a switch", he noted.

He also criticised the DMK for their alliance with the Congress party who were partly responsible for the deaths of lakhs of Tamils in Srilanka in 2009.

"The opposition often criticise me my calling me just an actor. Yes, I am an actor but an actor with a vision to uplift the lives of the people. An actor, who has paid all his taxes to the government. An actor who wants to lead a honest and truthful life. What stops you all from being so?", asked Kamal.

He also slammed the ruling government by saying instead of questioning me, the government should probably find answers to many questions which are asked by the people. "Where is Mukilan? Who passed orders for Tuticorin shooting? What action has been taken on the Coimbatore SP who revealed the name of the complainant? and What was the statement issued by the CM against the Pollachi issue?", questioned Kamal.

Kamal also questioned the government, if they have planned ahead to tackle the health and water issues in the State.

"Every constituency in which Maiam emerges victorious will be transformed  into a green constituency. Water bodies will be revived and water conservation will be given importance. Youngsters will be encouraged to practice agriculture. We will celebrate farmers and agriculture".

Clippings of police atrocities during Jallikattu protests and the emotional statement by mother of J.Snowlin, the 18-year-old girl who was killed in Tuticorin shooting were showcased to the public.

"The tears of Snowlin's mother is the achievement of the BJP government", Kamal said.

He listed out the incidents which he alleged to be a proof for the ineptness of both State and Central government. "Around 3000 people die out if accidents, due to pot holes, why are the people denied good roads? Thousands of Children die due to lack of good medical facilities, why?. How do we hold the legislators responsible?" slammed Kamal.

"As we decided upon the principles of Maiam, priority was given to hold the concerned MPs and MLAs responsible for their act. "Raise a complaint, if it's true, then the concerned legislator's resignation will reach the people", noted Kamal for which people expressed their joy by clapping, whistling and calling aloud 'Nammavar'.

He later announced the second set of candidates for the upcoming elections.
