Erode : In an appreciative effort, foresters of the Antiyur Range rescued and united with its herd a three to four-month-old elephant calf that fell inside the main canal of Varattupallam dam in Erode yesterday.

The calf that was roaming with a herd in the area had accidentally fallen inside the canal, after which the herd attempted to lift the calf up. However, the herd could not help it out and were trumpeting loudly.
Hearing the commotion, foresters had rushed to the spot with tribesmen from a nearby tribal hamlet. They later chased the herd and attempted to rescue the calf.

The team led by Forest Watcher Dharmalingam braved to approach the calf from within the canal and lifted it up to safety. The calf initially chased its rescuers and was later united with the herd that was standing nearby.
