14,746 electoral staff trained in Coimbatore
Coimbatore : As many as 14,746 electoral staff who are to work in the 3,072 polling stations across the District on April 18th were trained in ten different training centres in Coimbatore today.
Teachers and Government staff who are to work in the booths in schools and colleges were given necessary training.
Inspecting the training centre at Nirmala College for Women, in which more than 3,000 electoral staff of the South Coimbatore Assembly Constituency were being trained, District Collector K. Rajamani, said that the second and third phase of training would be held on April 6th and 13th respectively.
“Elections will be held fairly and special investigating officers are posted to inspect the proceedings. We have already confiscated Rs. 1.5 crore including Rs. 44 lakh foreign currency through our flying squads. Their vehicles are also fitted with GPS that works for 24 hours, which can be monitored from Chennai and the Coimbatore election office,” he said.
He further added that any election related complaints can be made with the Election Commission Office at the District Collector Office. “The expenditure of the district’s election proceedings ha ve been checked by Election overseers who visited on March 18th. Two General Election Overseers would do another visit on April 3rd,” he said.
He added that 15 per cent additional Electronic Voting Machines and additional election staff have been kept in store in the district to be used if needed.
“We have made necessary arrangements for the people of Chellappan Goundanputhur in people to vote and are striving to record 100 per cent voting in Coimbatore. work is in progress to include 18 and 19-year-olds in the voters list and also to increase the voting percentage this year,” said Rajamani.
Other training centres include National Model School for Mettupalayam, RVS Arts and Science for Sulur, Kongunadu Arts and Science College for Goundampalayam, Hindustan Arts and Science College for Coimbatore North, Krishna College of Engineering and Technology for Thondamuthur, Government Girls Higher Secondary School for Singanallur, Hindustan College of Technology for Kinathukidavu and Mahalingam Engineering College for Valparai Constituencies
