Coimbatore : In view of the upcoming Lok sabha election, the Election Commission is tightening its grip over illegal money transactions to ensure fair elections. Four flying squad and static surveillance teams are conducting vehie inspections in Mettupalayam to prevent election violations.

During a vehicle check on the Mettupalayam- Annur road, Zonal flying squad officer, Ravichandran and Sub Inspector, Gunasekaran confiscated Rs. 2,42,000 cash without proper documents on Saturday.
During the enquiry, Taufiq Ali, the owner of the money had claimed that the cash was taken to pay the workers wages. However, as he did not possess documents to support his claim, the officials handed over the cash to Mettupalayam election officer.
