Coimbatore : In an attempt to avert any untoward incidents and provide a peaceful voting environment in bordering tribal hamlets that are prone to Maoist movements, District Collector of Nilgiris and Electoral Officer of Nilgiris Lok Sabha Constituency Innocent Divya has stated that more protection would be given to polling booths in such areas.
Coimbatore : In an attempt to avert any untoward incidents and provide a peaceful voting environment in bordering tribal hamlets that are prone to Maoist movements, District Collector of Nilgiris and Electoral Officer of Nilgiris Lok Sabha Constituency Innocent Divya has stated that more protection would be given to polling booths in such areas.
Briefing media persons at the Zonal level electoral orientation meeting in Mettupalayam on Friday, Innocent Divya said that special protection would be given by Special Task Force police to polling booths hamlets close to the neighbouring state of Kerala.
“The voting machines would also be transported back and forth with full protection and discussions are going on with senior police officials in the district regarding the same,” she said.
Talking about giving protection to the election officers who travel through forest to the polling stations, the Collector said the forest staff would be posted to guard the election officers during travel to ward off wild animals.
Earlier addressing the zonal election officers of three of the six assembly constituencies that come under the Nilgiris Lok Sabha constituency including Mettupalayam, Avinashi and Bhavanisagar, Innocent Divya directed the officials to clarify doubts of the voters with utmost patience.
“It is important that we treat them with respect. If the voters create unnecessary problem, file a complaint with the police officers on duty in the polling booths,” she said.
She also advices the staff to check for any t technical errors in the polling booth or the voting machine and learn to rectify them quickly.
“The voters would be unaware of the newly installed machine that shows to whom the voters have voted. We should also explain them
about it,” she added.
During the orientation meeting, the election officers were informed about the functioning of the voting machine.
