Coimbatore : TTV Dhinakaran’s lieutenant and Propaganda Secretary of Amma Makkal Munnettra Kazhagam (AMMK) Thanga Thamizhselvan will take on electoral debutant P Ravindranath, the son of Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam at their Lok Sabha constituency, Theni.
The former MLA who was disqualified for shifting his allegiance to Dhinakaran was announced as the candidate in the second and final list of AMMK candidates for the Lok Sabha elections and the by-polls.
It was initially expected that Dhinakaran could announce himself as the candidate for the Theni constituency, which is expected to witness a close fight between the AIADMK and AMMK. The opposition alliance led by DMK has offered the constituency to Congress which has not announced its candidate thus far.
Thanga Thamizhselvan, had earlier opined in an interview with News 18 that even a low-ranked AMMK cadre could defeat OPS’ son, Ravindranath. The party had earlier released the names of the candidates for the 24 Lok Sabha constituencies and 9 Assembly constituencies on Sunday. Having said that it would contest in only 38 constituencies and will be offering the remaining constituency (Central Chennai) for its ally, the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI), the final list emerged today.
The list also included the names of two other disqualified MLAs, including N G Parthiban and P Palaniappan who would be contesting in Arakkonam and Dharmapuri constituencies respectively. AMMK is also expected to release its election manifesto today.
