Coimbatore : Food safety officials seized 150 kgs of gutka products being smuggled in No.1 Travels, near Pappanaikenpalayam.

Upon the order of the Tamil Nadu Government and the Health Department, food security officials are raiding and seizing tonnes of banned pan masala (gutka) products in various parts of the State. Cases have been filed against the persons involved in the smuggling business. However, anti-social elements have still been hoarding and distributing gutka products illegally in the market.

Meanwhile, food safety officials received an information that gutka products are being smuggled in private buses. Officials led by Dr. Vijaya Lalithambigai conducted searches on all the private travels operating in Coimbatore. During the search, they seized 150 kgs of banned tobacco products in No.1 Travels near Pappanaikenpalayam. They also confiscated the bus which was being used for smuggling goods.
